For a weekend escape to San Diego that’s home to great food and fun times, stay in Mission Bay. Whether you spend your time relaxing by a pool or adventuring in the water you’ll need to refuel. There are dozens of great restaurants and cafes all around the bay. However, these are some of the best places to grab a meal in Mission Bay.
Breakfast
For a light yet filling breakfast order the Avocado Toast and Acai Bowls at Covewood. Covewood sits on the shore with a spectacular view of the bay. You’ll enjoy the lovely bay breeze as you devour breakfast.
Seriously, give into the millennial desire to eat avocado toast any chance you get and dig into this beautiful pate. The smoked mozzarella, tomato, and prosciutto elevate the toast in the best way while not being overly pretentious.
After having the Acai Bowl at Covewood I very quickly went home and did my darned best to replicate it. Something about that toasted coconut and honeycomb was just magical.

Lunch
For lunch stop by Oceana Coastal Kitchen for a Cannibal Colada and the Three Mushroom Flatbread. Oceana Coastal Kitchen is a gorgeous restaurant at the Catamaran Resort. You’ll find a huge fish tank in the dining room and an expansive and lovely patio that overlooks. the sandy beach.
The Three Mushroom Flatbread is a great vegetarian option for lunch. Topped with cremini, shitake, and oyster mushrooms it’s delish and filling. Order a few of the different flatbreads at Oceana to share as a table.
With lunch, you’ve got to order the Cannibal Colada made with Catamaran’s own Catamaran Spiced Rum, mango, papaya, and coconut, and it’s the PERFECT bay side drink. It makes taking in the sunshine even better.

Dinner
For dinner run, seriously run, over to Dockside 1953 ASAP.
Order the Sumac Hummus and Olive Tapenade as a starter. It’s served with pickled onions, grilled pita bread, and raw veggies, it’s vegan and so worth it. We were fighting over it at dinner.
For your meal, order the Charbroiled Ribeye Steak that I’m STILL thinking about months later. I didn’t even get a photo because I DOVE into that steak and polished it off in mere moments. I’m contemplating going back to Mission Bay for this steak alone!

Drinks
There are a few great places to grab drinks in Mission Bay
The first is Barefoot Bar and Grill for their Passionate Affair cocktail, which has Grey Goose Vodka, St-Germain, Passion fruit Puree, mint, and luster powder. It’s easily my favorite view at any bar along the bay.
The second is technically slightly outside of Mission Bay however if you are a beer lover you’ve gotta try a tasting flight at Ballast Point Home Brew. Once you’ve finished sipping, stop by the Home Brew Mart and pick up everything you need to brew your own beer at home, or take a home brewing class to learn the basics.

Coffee // Tea
Superbloom Coffee and Juice at the Mission Bay Beach club is THE place to go for coffee and tea. Not only is it a vegan cafe it has killer coffee, tea fresh-pressed juice, and snacks. Order their specialty Vanilla Biscuit Latte or the Sunrise a fresh pressed juice made with carrot orange and turmeric. The Mission Bay beach club is a charming little spot for a quick coffee break during the day.
